Do you have an old cell phone you are not using? Check out CellPhonesforSoldiers.com. I received one of their bags in an Amazon package. All I did was put my cell phone in it and mailed it in. Felt good knowing someone would use it that needed a phone.

If you have talked to me in the last 6 months you may have noticed that I have become obsessed with networking with people and getting everyone I know onto LinkedIn.com. I am guessing I have most people on my blog converted over, but if not:
Have you heard of LinkedIn.com? It is like MySpace or Facebook, but without all of the drunken pictures and glitter graphics. It is a great way to stay connected with business people as they move through their careers. It also has a great search tool that allows you to search for business contacts in your network. If you are in any business position, you should be in LinkedIn. It is free to join and only takes a few minutes to set up.
If you join, make sure you send me an invite. http://www.linkedin.com/in/aarondweber

Oh how school has changed in 10 years.
- There is a website now called RateMyProfessors.com. I don’t know what we did without it. The site rates professors from all colleges. Students go in and rate their teachers on a variety of categories and can write reviews. There were usually around 5-35 reviews on the teachers at UST. With so many credits I am one of the first to register. I selected the top rated teachers and when I checked back in 4 days later all of my sections were filled up! Oh it is nice to have alot of credits. I am pumped to see how good the teachers are. If you know any students that are in college, spread the word on this site. I would never register for classes without it. There is actually an interesting rating on the site as well. Students can actually rate if their teacher is hot. What an interesting world we live in. : )
- Wireless Internet and Laptops make studying on campus so much easier. I just park myself at any table on campus and I am ready to roll. The only drawback is that my lap top is not that light. So it is making my backpack with books very heavy. I have a docking station for my laptop at home, I highly recommend this for students. When you are cramming for a deadline, it is nice not to have to spend time transferring files to your laptop.
- There is a Intranet like system that professors use. Here they post online quizzes, your grades, handouts for class, list of all your classmates emails, announcements, etc. It is a great way to leverage technology.
- Next semester one of my classes has the option to have your text book be digital instead of printed. That should be interesting.
- All of the class rooms have projectors. For a presentation I just plugged my laptop in and was able to run my power point on my laptop instead of copying it over to some pc. I embedded Youtube video. (If you want to kill some time in your presentation, this is the way to go.)
- The class rooms instead of having an overhead they have this video capturing system. It video tapes what is placed under the projector and then displaces it via the projector. So instead of transparences you can put a text book, printed hand outs, etc. It works very nice.
- Even cell phones. I don’t think I had a cell phone when I went to school. I have a T-Mobile Dash now. I am regularly checking emails in class. It is interesting how teachers just let students do anything in class. I catch myself Instant Messaging or emailing on my laptop while a teacher lectures about something I already know. I often try to close my laptop so I don’t get distracted.

I have accepted a position as the Website Administrator for University of St. Thomas’s Entrepreneurship Society. The current website needs alot of work. The first change I am making is changing the domain name from “NextHeadHoncho.com” to “USTES.org”. I will make a post when the website is done. I am excited to become more active in the group.

For Christmas I received The Book of Cool. Ryan Newman suggested it to me 2-3 years back and I finally got it. It is really cool, can’t wait to learn some of the moves.

We had created the website BabyWeber.com to give updates on the progress of our baby from birth on. Unfortunately, similar to my blog, baby Bella had been stuck at “We are going home today.” for about 4 months. The site is finally updated. Check it out.

I finally have my life back! I bought a new lap top in August. It was a Lenovo ThinkPad with Vista Ultimate. It is working great, but there is one thing that drove me crazy. When I opened IE7 it would say “Connecting..” for 7 seconds on a freaking “about:blank” home page!! You can’t even go into the address bar and type in the url you are wanting to go to. That is 7 seconds of my life that was being waisted. I estimated I open my browser on average 20 times per day. So at 7 seconds each open that is 140 seconds a day wiasted. I am thinking, “What the hell! There is nothing to Connect to! It is freaking about:blank!!!” Take this even further I bought my computer June 08 so I have estimated I have wasted 5.8 hours. (5 months x 30 days x 20 opens x 7 seconds / 60 sec per min / 60 min per hour). I finally said enough is enough and woke up at 2 am, went downstairs and started Googling the problem. Boom, here is the solution! Go into Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons > Add-ons Currently Loaded in Internet Explorer and try disabling a few add-ons you are not using. My life is back in my hands now!
Here are a couple things I plan on doing with my 70 minutes per month I now have saved:
- Take up some type of martial arts
- Research alternative energy advancements
- Think about the meaning of life
So, if you want to become a Ninja or help solve alternative energy crisis or solve the meaning of life, just check your Add-ons you currently have loading in Internet Explorer! Worked for me!
